ATAJO - Echar raéces / HOBOREC - 2023

Echar Raices

This video was filmed and recorded at HoboRec studios in Lund Sweden in 2023, by Engineer Ulf Blomberg. "Echar raíces" is the song that gives the name to this album in which the following musicians participated: Panchi Maldonado - Voice and guitar, Dan Frith - Lead Guita, rRenzo Jaldín - Percussions and backing vocals, Björn Wickenberg (Oso) - Drums and backing vocals, Mauricio Picasso - Bass, Magnus Ehlde - Piano and keyboard.

Quita penas

This music video was filmed in La Paz, Bolivia, and features the title track of the album Quita Penas (2016). It delivers a powerful message calling for peace and a firm NO to war, reflecting the band’s core values. For Atajo, music is a form of refuge and expression, offering a space to heal and reflect. The video invites viewers to find harmony amid chaos and reminds us of music’s power to inspire hope.

Live at Plan B

This is a summary of our performance at the NGBG Festival in Malmö, Sweden 2024, where we played songs that are part of our live setlist, such as: Quita penas, Revolución india astral, Maior abandonado, Nunca más, Kalampeando penas, Oye mi hermano, and Sobre y encima. We showcased the diversity of our live show, exploring Cumbia, Huayno, Reggae, Murga, Candombe, and more.

Oye mi Hermano

Hey my brother, it shows the Latin American diversity of language, but at the same time also the social problems that we live in around a globalized world but nothing equitable, which is sold to us as a promise of development and that at the same time only has history of war, lies, manipulation, hatred and inequality. Cumbita del rockerón

“Cumbita del rockerón” is a vibrant and playful parody where Atajo teams up with renowned French musician Sargento García to blur the lines between genres and stereotypes. Through the voices of Sargento and Panchi Maldonado, the song humorously challenges the stigma around popular music, reminding us that both rock and cumbia share the same roots. With its infectious groove, it delivers a simple truth: when it’s time to celebrate, even the most devoted rocker ends up dancing cumbia.

Tiempo

The music video for “Tiempo,” directed by Edwin Villca, uses a documentary-style approach to portray Bolivia’s recent history up to the early 2000s through raw and direct imagery. Its critical perspective unsettled Hugo Banzer Suárez’s government, leading to media censorship. At the same time, it incorporates visual elements inspired by Edgar Arandia’s artwork, creating a contrast between art and reality that strengthens its expressive power and value as testimony.

Inal Mama

“Inal Mama: Sacred and Profane”, directed by Eduardo López Zabala, explores the dual nature of the coca leaf: its ancestral, ritual, and medicinal significance, alongside its darker associations with drug trafficking, violence, and stigma. With music by Panchi Maldonado, leader of Atajo, the film builds a powerful narrative that bridges the spiritual and the social, revealing the cultural and political complexity of coca in Latin America.

Ay mamita

The music video for “Ay mamita,” directed by Yvette Paz Soldán, portrays Bolivia’s memory during the 2003 Gas War. Atajo raises a plea for forgiveness to Pachamama for the violence inflicted on her people by the government of Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada. With the participation of victims’ families and the wounded, the video builds an intimate and collective narrative that blends pain, memory, and resistance, transforming music into an act of awareness and dignity.
